Dynamical analysis of AMOC – tipping points and forcing factors

In this work I analyzed the structural changes of the dynamics of AMOC. Freshwater forcing from Sea Ice melting is shown to slowdown the overturning based on observational data. Hysteresis and phase space diagrams are build from time series data, showing close similarity to model simulations and giving an indication that the AMOC has already passed a tipping point and it’s on the attractor of the “off” state. The AMOC has suffered a rate induced tipping because of the Great Salinity Anomaly.
