a) When visiting the website
When you visit our website, the browser used on your terminal device automatically sends information to our website server. This information is temporarily stored in a so-called log file. The following information is collected without your intervention and stored until automated deletion:

b) Processing of personal data and purposes of processing when subscribing to the newsletter and sending mails
On our website, we offer various options for subscribing to a newsletter or press distribution list. Insofar as you have given your consent in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a DSGVO, we will use your e-mail address to send you regular information according to your selection. To receive the information, it is sufficient to provide an e-mail address.
You may be able to voluntarily provide additional information about yourself (e.g., name, address, and telephone number). We use this data to contact you by phone or mail (e.g. for newsletters, press invitations, online project application).
You will then receive a registration notification by e-mail, which you must confirm in order to receive the newsletter (so-called double opt-in). This serves as proof for us that the registration was actually initiated by you.
Unsubscribing is possible at any time, e.g. via a link at the end of each press newsletter. Alternatively, you are welcome to email your unsubscribe request to info@dbu.de at any time.
Your e-mail address will be deleted immediately after revocation of your consent to receive the newsletter.
We send our newsletter and mails using the provider rapidmail GmbH, Wentzingerstraße 21, 79106 Freiburg im Breisgau. The e-mail addresses and data, are stored on our behalf on the servers of rapidmail in Germany.
rapidmail uses this information to send and evaluate the newsletters on our behalf. We have concluded an order processing agreement with rapidmail for this purpose. Through this contract, rapidmail assures that they will process the data in accordance with the GDPR and ensure the protection of the rights of the data subject.
rapidmail assures that personal data are comprehensively protected against unauthorized access. rapidmail itself does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to write to them itself or pass the data on to third parties. As a reputable email sender, rapidmail is also certified according to ISO 27001.
Furthermore, you have the possibility – e.g. if you receive DBUaktuell by mail – to unsubscribe in writing. Please use the address information above in the imprint.
c) When using contact forms
For questions of any kind, we offer you the possibility to contact us via a form provided on the website. In doing so, it is necessary to provide a valid e-mail address so that we know from whom the request originates and so that we can answer it. Additional information can be provided voluntarily.
Data processing for the purpose of contacting us is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a) DS-GVO on the basis of your voluntarily given consent.
The personal data collected by us for the use of the contact form will be automatically deleted after completion of your request.

We use cookies on our site. These are small files that your browser automatically creates and that are stored on your end device (laptop, tablet, smartphone or similar) when you visit our site. Cookies do not cause any damage to your end device, do not contain viruses, Trojans or other malware.

The tracking measures listed below and used by us are used on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f) DS-GVO carried out. With the tracking measures used, we want to ensure a needs-based design and the ongoing optimization of our website. On the other hand, we use the tracking measures to statistically record the use of our website and to evaluate it for the purpose of optimizing our offer for you. Applications for the doctoral scholarship program

As part of the selection process, some of your data (name, university degree, name and institution of the supervisor, description of the project) will also be passed on to external reviewers.
In case of a grant, your data will be published in the grant database and on the websites of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt grant program with your name, the year of the grant, the title of the project and the research unit. Just look at the representation in the corresponding database .
During the online application, you have the option of viewing the information we have stored about you at any time via the “Printout” item. Furthermore, you can – also within the scope of the online application up to the submission of your application – delete all data collected by us. In this case, the data will be deleted completely and directly.
In principle, in the case of a grant, the data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required to fulfill the tasks of the foundation. For additional information, please refer to the funding guidelines for the Doctoral Fellowship Program.

Within the website visit, we use the widespread SSL procedure (Secure Socket Layer) in connection with the highest encryption level supported by your browser. As a rule, this is a 256-bit encryption. If your browser does not support 256-bit encryption, we use 128-bit v3 technology instead. You can tell whether an individual page of our website is transmitted in encrypted form by the closed display of the key or lock symbol in the lower status bar of your browser.
We also use appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulation, partial or complete loss, destruction or against unauthorized access by third parties.
